Guide, delivery, and surveillance robots have made their debut in the underground shopping mall at Bupyeong Station in Incheon. On the 25th, the city of Incheon (Mayor Jeong-bok Yoo) held a launch ceremony for the AI-5G Large-Scale Robot Demonstration Project at Bupyeong Station's underground shopping mall.
The project, selected in May as part of a public offering by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, aims to enhance public convenience and promote the popularization of robots by introducing various robots into frequently-visited public facilities such as shopping malls and major subway stations.
The project, with a budget of ₩1.9 billion, will run for two years, from this year until next, showcasing 15 robots of five types—guide, delivery, bakery, and surveillance robots—at Bupyeong Station and its underground shopping mall. This project is jointly conducted by Incheon Technopark, Incheon Transit Corporation, the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Yujin Robot, and Syscon Robotics.
To support this initiative, Incheon has established the Incheon AI-5G Robot Demonstration Support Center as the base for the robot demonstrations. The center is equipped with various demonstration robots and a comprehensive remote control system that uses the 5G network to collect and manage real-time sensor and video data from the robots.
Until next year, visitors to Bupyeong Station and its underground shopping mall will be able to see five types of demonstration robots, including surveillance and delivery robots, operating via the integrated remote control system.
